Located nearby the Port of Itaqui, in São Luís, in the State of Maranhão, MPX Itaqui, a 100% MPX undertaking, will be a sprayed coal thermoelectric plant with estimated generation capacity of 360 mW.

The MPX Itaqui invests about R$ 1,6 billion in the construction of this project. An investment that seeks for more development to the state. It’s about 6 thousand direct and indirect jobs in the construction phase and 100 during the operation, with local manpower qualification and regional market heating.

The beginning of the Operation will be in the second semester of 2011 and the energy supply contract will be signed as from 2012. The plant integrates the Growth Acceleration Program (PAC) of the Brazilian Federal Government. The electric energy, which will be produced by the thermoelectric, surpasses the current volume supplied by the Maranhão distribution concessionaire.
