MPX Energy, through its subsidiary MPX Itaqui, initiated on August 2009 the socio-cultural projects activities sponsored by the company in Maranhão, especially in the capital, São Luís, and in the city of Paço do Lumiar.
This year’s selected projects have been the Maranhão in the Screen (Maranhão na Tela), of development to cinematographic production, and the Giramundo Dolls Theater (Giramundo Teatro de Bonecos).
For MPX Itaqui it is very important the investment in socio-cultural projects which can extend income generation and local culture valuation opportunities. Maranhão in the Screen and Giramundo are able to link good quality entertainment with a professional and environment education.
MARANHÃO IN THE SCREEN
The Maranhão in the Screen is a socio-cultural project for the promotion of audiovisual production which exists since 2007 and is different for offering free workshops for qualification, production and diffusion, stimulating the emergence of new regional talents.
The project looks forward to consolidate Maranhão as an important audiovisual production center, through social networks mobilization and partnerships with people and communities.
GIRAMUNDO THEATER OF DOLLS
Created nearly 40 years ago, the Giramundo Theater of Dolls is the biggest one in Brazil, with presentations in all the national territory and some countries from Americas and Europe. Its productions participated in the children’s film “Castle Rá-tim-bum”, from Cao Hamburger, and in TV series “Hoje é dia de Maria”, from Rede Globo.
During all its existence, Giramundo has already created 33 plays, and it keeps 15 spectacles active, ready to be staged. The theater group has taken environment awareness messages to communities around the MPX Itaqui. In addition to the presentations in public squares, Giramundo has given dolls construction workshops. The exhibition of the result of this work will be conferred by the public in a presentation that will be carried out at the end of the year.
